High-Performance Digital Identity

Transforming an architectural firm’s online presence from a slow portfolio into an instantaneous, dynamic, and SEO-optimised experience.

The Challenge

Bond Architects is a Irish firm delivering bespoke design, but their existing WordPress website no longer reflected the quality and modernity of their work. The site suffered from WordPress performance issues, leading to a poor user experience, especially on mobile devices.

Our goal was to design and develop a new digital platform that was not only visually stunning but also technically flawless, reflecting the precision and elegance of their architecture.

My Role:

I led the project from conception to final implementation. My responsibilities included:

• UX/UI Design: Crafting a clean, intuitive, and mobile-first interface that prioritises the stunning project photography.
• Information Architecture: Restructuring the site map to create a seamless user journey from discovery to contact.
• Digital Brand Identity: Translating the Bond Architects brand into a scalable digital design system, including typography, colour palettes, and spacing.
• Interaction Design: Designing the fluid page transitions and micro-interactions using Framer Motion to create a responsive and engaging experience.
• Content Strategy: Collaborating on a new content-first approach, empowering the client to manage their portfolio dynamically through a custom backend.

The Solution:

Where Design Meets Performance
We chose a tech stack that’s considered the gold standard in Silicon Valley, ensuring the design was built on a foundation of world-class speed and reliability.

An Instantaneous User Experience
The site is built with Next.js and deployed on Vercel’s global edge network. This means pages load almost instantly for users anywhere in the world. I designed the interface with this speed in mind, using fluid animations that enhance, rather than hinder, the browsing experience.

A Dynamic, Living Portfolio
The core of the new site is a powerful, user-friendly (a11y) website powered by Supabase. I designed the system that converts jpg to webp without ever touching a line of code. This transforms the website from a static brochure into a living (3 mode) portfolio that is always current.

Designing for Discovery (Advanced SEO)
A beautiful site is useless if no one can find it. We implemented an automated system that generates Schema structured data for every project. This technical backend work was driven by the design goal of making Bond Architects more discoverable to search engines and AI, ensuring they connect with the right clients.

Mobile Performance: Increased from 55 to a near-perfect 99.

Page Load Speed: Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) was reduced by over 77% (from 3.5s to 0.8s).

User Experience: Achieved a perfect 0 for Cumulative Layout Shift, eliminating all visual instability during loading.

Client Empowerment: Delivered a future-proof platform that the client can easily manage themselves, saving time and resources. Like pre-build content validation: every project’s hero, gallery directory, and image set is verified against lib/projects.ts before deployment, so a missing or misnamed image fails CI instead of shipping a broken page.

2. Client Empowerment: By replacing a rigid system with a dynamic Supabase backend, we gave the client direct, real-time control over their own portfolio, turning the website into a living, evolving business tool.
3. Strategic Modernization: The adoption of a “Silicon Valley standard” tech stack established a secure, scalable, and future-proof AI focused foundation, ensuring the firm’s digital presence will remain on the cutting edge for years to come.
